Dorothy Mitchell is a civil litigator with experience in a wide
range of fields, including commercial contracts, antitrust, intellectual
property, employment, insurance coverage and products liability.
Ms. Mitchell worked at Brune & Richard from 2001 to 2003 and
joined the firm again in April 2004.
In 2003, Ms. Mitchell took a leave from Brune & Richard to
accept an appointment as Intellectual Property Counsel to the Senate
Judiciary Committee. At the Senate, she was responsible for advising
the Committee Chairman on intellectual property matters, drafting
legislation, organizing Committee hearings, and interacting with
members of the intellectual property community on a wide array of
issues.
From 1996 to 2001, Ms. Mitchell worked at the National Football
League as Counsel for Policy and Litigation and Assistant League
Secretary. Her responsibilities at the NFL included management of
litigation, enforcement of the League’s broadcast-related
intellectual property rights and legal oversight of the League’s
medical and safety committees. From 1995 to 1996, she was the Labor
Relations Counsel at the NFL Management Council, where she represented
NFL clubs in player-related arbitrations under the League’s
collective bargaining agreement and advised on labor and employment-related
issues.
From 1989 to 1995, Ms. Mitchell worked as a litigation associate
at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C.
In 2000, Ms. Mitchell was an Adjunct Professor at the Northeastern
University School of Law where she taught a class on copyright issues
in broadcast media.
Ms. Mitchell graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School
in 1989. In 1985, she graduated summa cum laude with a
B.A. in English from Duke University, where she was elected to Phi
Beta Kappa.
